A new high rise has its sights set on San Jose and would
feature safety elements for the coronavirus era. This 20-story tower is
proposed for a site on Almaden Boulevard between Post Street and W San
Fernando. The design by local architect, Gensler, includes 781,000 square feet
and 6 terraces for gatherings, recreation, and dining.
“The design prioritizes quality outdoor access and an
enhanced human experience,” said Daniel Glaessl, design director for Gensler
San Jose, “Gensler employed multiple post-pandemic design strategies that push
the idea of creating space that can adapt quickly to changing expectations of

In a unanimous vote last Tuesday, the San Jose city council
approved the City View Plaza development in the downtown core. The current
1970s-style mixed-use campus on the block bordered by Park Ave, Almaden Blvd,
and Market is set to transform into a modern, glass-lined, 3-tower, 3.8 million
square foot office park.
The developer, Jay Paul, is already under construction with
a different project located directly across the street at 200 Park Ave where a
1 million square foot office building is going up. Eventually the intention is
to have this, and the City View project integrated. Overall, Jay Paul is
expecting to invest $5 billion into San Jose’s downtown by the time all

A new tower has been proposed for Downtown San Jose's artsy SoFA District. This 358-unit project comes with a twist, it is proposing to
be entirely composed of affordable housing units. The scope of the proposed development
makes is one of the largest affordable housing projects in the Bay Area and
would add significant foot traffic to the downtown core.
The proposal for the tower contains 190 studio units, 84
one-bedroom units, 28 two-bedroom units, and 56 three-bedroom units. Additionally,
the development would include a three-story parking structure with 96 parking
spaces.
This development is still in the early stages of proposal and
it will be interesting to watch as the plans continue to evolve....
