In a unanimous vote last Tuesday, the San Jose city council approved the City View Plaza development in the downtown core. The current 1970s-style mixed-use campus on the block bordered by Park Ave, Almaden Blvd, and Market is set to transform into a modern, glass-lined, 3-tower, 3.8 million square foot office park. The developer, Jay Paul, is already under construction with a different project located directly across the street at 200 Park Ave where a 1 million square foot office building is going up. Eventually the intention is to have this, and the City View project integrated. A new tower has been proposed for Downtown San Jose's artsy SoFA District. This 358-unit project comes with a twist, it is proposing to be entirely composed of affordable housing units. The scope of the proposed development makes is one of the largest affordable housing projects in the Bay Area and would add significant foot traffic to the downtown core. The proposal for the tower contains 190 studio units, 84 one-bedroom units, 28 two-bedroom units, and 56 three-bedroom units. Additionally, the development would include a three-story parking structure with 96 parking spaces.
