SJC Proceeding with Promising Expansion
Posted on May 06, 2020.
San Jose Mineta Airport was one of the fasted growing airports in the country before the COVID 19 outbreak and subsequent shelter in place orders. Prior to the decrease in travel brought on by quarantine, 8 temporary gates were added to Terminal B and a major expansion plan was proposed to create 14 permanent new gates.
Even with the slow down in air travel, San Jose City Counsel unanimously approved this expansion that would also include a 300,000 SQFT hotel with 330 rooms and 5,300 new parking spaces. Ultimately this investment is likely still a smart one.
Silicon Valley is uniquely equipped for the current situation with an abundance of work-from-home-friendly tech jobs and other positions, which could mean seeing a more rapid turn around time than other parts of the world. The airport is a critical resource for us, and a highly trafficked one! This is an investment in the promising future of San Jose.
