Dramatic Office Tower Proposed for Downtown San Jose - Design Elements Include Coronavirus-Era Safety Features

A new high rise has its sights set on San Jose and would feature safety elements for the coronavirus era. This 20-story tower is proposed for a site on Almaden Boulevard between Post Street and W San Fernando. The design by local architect, Gensler, includes 781,000 square feet and 6 terraces for gatherings, recreation, and dining.
“The design prioritizes quality outdoor access and an enhanced human experience,” said Daniel Glaessl, design director for Gensler San Jose, “Gensler employed multiple post-pandemic design strategies that push the idea of creating space that can adapt quickly to changing expectations of the people who will use this space.”
Another coronavirus-era feature includes an ultra-flexible and touchless entry area that can accommodate multiple tenant lobbies.
The striking facade consists of large, bronze triangular louver panels. The tower would offer views of downtown San Jose as well as views to San Francisco and Mr. Hamilton.
This tower is proposed for an area already buzzing with other construction and proposals. Just down the street, Jay Paul is under construction with a new office tower at 200 Park Ave and has also just received approval for a massive development that will transform the CityView Plaza across the street. Also located down the street, Adobe is well underway with construction on a new office tower that will dramatically expand the company’s downtown San Jose campus at 333 W San Fernando Street.
This new proposal is also located just a few blocks from the site where Google plans to develop a transit-oriented village with office space, retail, residences, and hotels that could employ up to 25,000 people.
